• Putting the law into context: An appreciation of Patrick McAuslan and his influence. Geoff was invited to present a paper at the conference held in Birkbeck College, University of London, on ‘Law and Development: Patrick McAuslan’s Odyssey 1961-2011: A celebration of the work of Patrick McAuslan’.



• Social Housing in a Globalising World. Geoff was invited to make a keynote presentation at the international MACDES Congress held at the Nacional Hotel, Havana, Cuba in December 2011.

• Global Urbanist Debates. Geoff was invited to contribute to the latest Global Urbanist debates on “Seeking a global urban agenda” which was held in London on 22 November 2011.



• Social Housing Report for DFID India. Resource materials on selected aspects of urban planning and housing prepared for the TI-UP Resource Centre and the UK Department for International Development (DFID) India Office.



• Building sustainable settlements... a look forwards to 2050. Geoff was invited to make a keynote presentation at the MACDES International Conference on Sustainable Development and the Built Environment held in Havana, Cuba between 04-07 December 2008.



• To own or to hold? Assessing the social and economic impacts of land titling programmes in urban and peri-urban areas. GPA was invited by the Global Land Tool Network to make a presentation on the research project ‘Social and economic impacts of land titling programmes in urban and peri-urban areas: Review of the literature and case studies in Senegal and South Africa’.



• The Urban Challenge. Geoff Payne was invited by the International Union of Architects to make a presentation at the UIA Congress Session on Slumcapes in Turin July 2008. The presentation, The Urban Challege: Are architects part of the solution or the problem?, was delievered to an audience of over 200 delegates.



• 'Social and economic impacts of land titling programmes in urban and peri-urban areas: International experience and case studies of Senegal and South Africa' Geoffrey Payne made a presentation on titling programmes in Senegal and South Africa at the the FIG (International Federation of Surveyors)/UN-Habitat Seminar on 'Improving Slums conditions through Innovating Financing' to be held in Stockholm, Sweden, on 16-18 June, 2008.



• 'Are architects and planners part of the problem or the solution in enabling access to housing for the poor?' Geoff Payne was invited by ArcPeace and Architects for Social Responsibility to present a paper at a conference held at the University of Catalunya in Barcelona on 18 April 2008.



• "Social and economic impacts of land titling programmes in urban and peri-urban areas of developing countries" Geoffrey Payne made a presentation on "Social and economic impacts of land titling programmes in urban and peri-urban areas of developing countries", in a seminar at Makerere University, Kampala, on January 28th 2008. The seminar was sponsored by SIDA, Makerere University and the Swedish Royal Institute of Technology as a regional follow-up to the World Bank Urban Research Symposium held in Washington D.C. in May 2007.



• Social and economic impacts of land titling programmes in urban and peri-urban areas: A review of the literature. Geoff Payne was invited to present a desk review of literature on land titling programmes at the World Bank Urban Research Symposium in Washington D.C., 14 -16 May 2007. The desk review represents Stage 1 of an international social and economic impact assessment of land titling programmes carried out in urban or peri-urban areas of developing countries.



• Alternatives to Titling. Geoffrey Payne was invited by the World Bank Institute to present a paper on "Alternatives to Titling" in a video conference on Land Administration in Africa. Searching for Land Tenure Security, 22 May 2006. Participants included senir officials, academics and other professionals involved in land management and land tenure policies in six African countries: Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, Tanzania and Uganda.



• Housing Convention in Istanbul, 08-09 April 2006. Contribution by Geoffrey Payne to Session VI: "New trends in urban transformation and redevelopment of squatter areas", of the Housing Convention organised by the Housing Development Administration, Government of Turkey at the Istanbul Convention and Exhibition Centre.
