CARDO is the Centre for Architectural Research and Development Overseas at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. It is currently undertaking a study of the nature and extent of homelessness in 9 developing countries. In developing countries, the growth in homelessness has occurred in the context of the "urbanisation of poverty", meaning that current urban growth is occurring while most citizens are poor. Within this context, adequate housing is recognised by the United Nations as a human right and, in response, rights-based housing strategies have been developed. Changemakers.net is a pioneering e-zine dedicated to the growing profession of social entrepreneurship. It is an initiative of Ashoka: Innovators for the Public, a global nonprofit organization that identifies and invests in leading social entrepreneurs around the world. The mission of the site is to provide inspiration, resources and opportunities for those interested in social change globally. Habitat International is dedicated to the study of human settlements: their planning, design, production and management. Its main focus is on urbanisation in the developing world. id21.org is a fully-searchable online digest of the latest international development research, specialising in bringing all aspects of development research to an international audience of policy makers, development practitioners and journalists. id21 also produces the regular email research bulletin id21News, and the bi-monthly print review Insights. N-AERUS is a pluridisciplinary network of researchers and experts working on urban issues in Developing countries. Its objective is to mobilise and develop the European institutional and individual research and training capacities on urban issues in the South with the support of institutions and individual researchers with relevant experience in this field. Open House International is a Quarterly journal delivering hard facts and figures about issues dealing with environment, housing, building and planning in both developed and developing countries of the world. The RICS Foundation, is a global charity for research into land, property, construction and development. They apply their knowledge to sustainable development, acting as a catalyst between the private, academic and government sectors. Aiming to highlight ways in which we can all live in a more prosperous society which can be sustained over the long term for the benefit of present and future generations: prosperity with responsibility.
